Liberty And Security

"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security.”
Our forefathers risked their lives, their fortunes, their families for freedom. And our forefathers knew, based on their history as subjects of the English crown, that there was no security without liberty. The only way in which they could assure security, was to assure their liberty. Thus, the American Revolution. The Loyalists, who supported the English Crown, put their security above freedom. The Loyalists lost. If the Loyalists had won, not only would the citizens of the colonies not have freedom, security would have eluded them too. The English Crown would make all the laws without input from everyday people. Fighting for freedom, however, assured security along with liberty.
I cannot imagine living in a world where I cannot freely roam the country, where I cannot freely worship, where I cannot defend myself or my family, and where I cannot freely speak without the chains of government about my neck. Can you?
